Doug's Top 10

I'm reading "Finding the Love of Your Life" by Neal Clarke-Warren, and one of the things he asks you to do is take the following qualities and rank them in order of which ones are most important to you in a spouse. Here's how I ranked the 10.

  1. Personality
  2. Creativity
  3. Spirituality
  4. Appearance
  5. Chemistry
  6. Intelligence
  7. Authenticity
  8. Character
  9. Parenting
  10. Ambition

Ok, so how would you rate those 10? I found it pretty hard, because no matter how I arranged them some would end up near the bottom of the list.

Tough to put them in a particular order - especially since the way you order them at any given time will to some extent be dependent on the circumstances you are facing.

Wow, this IS hard!

1.Authenticity (That's first because I'm so clueless, he'd better be what he appears to be, or I'm in trouble.)
2.Intelligence
3.Spirituality
4.Character (These three were hard. I know the correct answer should be spirituality first, but, sheesh, I don't wanna live at Sunday School, so I put intelligence before that. And spirituality should take care of the character part.)
5. Chemistry (I need to be able to tell the difference between him and my Dad, so this one's kinda high up there.)
6. Ambition (There should be a little of this around the house, so it came next)
7. Appearance (Basic hygiene and a vague awareness of what not to wear should cover it.)
8. Parenting (Not because it's not important, but because an intelligent person of good character should be able to be whipped into shape pretty quickly in this department.)
9. Personality
10. Creativity (These are last because I think I probably have enough for the both of us. And, well, to be honest, I don't know that they've been much of a help in my relationships so far, anyway!)

GREAT EXERCISE! Very good thought-starter.

my ex is a great looking man, very fussy with appearance and hygiene, turns out to be obsessively so, conceited and a lousy person & father. It is hard putting it in order, life does dictate what is most important.

The only change I would make to the arrangement Sandy did is to switch ambition and personality, simply because I'm in a different stage of life than she is (much later).
Hi Sandy.

I'll take authenticity over all the rest...because if you are authentic you are true to what you believe. So a good character and spirituality rank high for me.
