the doctor is in

One of the people I am currently counseling was praying and asking God if she could trust me. She said that God told her, "Yes, you can trust Doug. Keep on counseling with him because he has the gift of healing the unseen."

I thought that was pretty cool!

(PS Thank you God)

Yes. I would agree with that, definitely, that you have that gift. Insight, maybe what you could call it? i dunno. but it is a powerful gift. (And with great power, comes great responsibility! You must always use your gift for good, and not evil! :-)

but no, seriously. You certainly cut through any of my bs with a few sharp swipes!

Soldier on!

Cut through the bs with a few sharp swipes? Hmmm... sounds very tender and compassionate and gentle and healing.

Oh yeah, sometimes radical surgery does need to be done!!! lol

To walk and work in your gift is a wonderful thing. To refine your gift, submit to your gift, participate with your gift, and change so that you can be trusted with more gifts is the hard part. I see you doing the hard part, and because of it, you support life around you. In all your pain, fraility, and sorrow you support life and truth. Having submitted to surgery, both physical and psycological, I prefer a surgeon with a very sharp knife, great skills, and flowing compassion. I have found one in you and I am grateful. I salute you, victorious warrier. PC

Doug, I really enjoy reading your blog. What do you think makes you trustworthy?

Good question, anonymous. And thanks for the affirmation.

Well, i think it's a combination of...

1. Being acutely aware of all my own weaknesses and failings and defects
2. Believing that God loves me anyway.
3. Being very sensitive by nature (to my hurt and others' hurt)
4. Being given a gift of wisdom and compassion and acceptance that intuitively knows how to handle someone in pain such that they feel safe with me, and such that i don't say stupid things to make it worse. (Although i do crack a few corny jokes here and there.)

My two cents.
Perhaps you hear the unsaid... and you validate what is said.
You do not condemn the lack of wisdom in others...which is very wise...lol. Teresa

yes, i do think i hear the unsaid, and often pray that i will at the beginning of a session.

And you're right about not condemning the lack of wisdom in others. Good observations! Thanks TLB
